I hate you Newtek

Newtek once again disappointed me after releasing their monthly newsletter.

For those of you who are aware, Newtek is in the middle of developing their latest and greatest Lightwave successor, CORE.  Although they have been promising all of the bells and whistles found in modern day 3D rendering packages such as Maya or 3d Studio, Newtek seems to have only been promising rather than delivering.

So, with your sentiments, and our dedication to shipping a solid, tested, and stable software application – we have made the decision to move our originally expected ship date from Q1 2010 to later in the year. We will communicate to you the most accurate expected ship date once we have entered the full BETA and testing process for LightWave with CORE Technology.

Originally, the software was slated for September, and then they pushed the date over to q1.  Now, Newtek says “later this year.”  What ?

…Well at least Newtek entered into “full” BETA – whatever the heck that means.

If you are reading this, Newtek, which I hope you are, listen to what I am about to say.  I LOVE your product.  I’m probably the last person on the face of this planet that actually does.  I am for the direction you are going, but I highly suggest not doing it at the expense of your customers and/or price point.  I just used your software for a project which made my clients very very happy and wish to use it further.  Please don’t let me down.

And by the way, Newtek…I hate you.

I hate NewTek because they managed to destroy Lightwave totally with 9 series. Why the hell did they overwrite it. Now even features that worked fine until 8.5 are nonfunctional or work sort of. So this is reason I do not put high expectations for LW Core. I have been Lightwave user for more than 15 years, but now thinking about switching to something professional – obviously the choice will be Maya.

My only thing about Lightwave is price and scalability. Lightwave Core is said to run on Linux(virtualization?) as well as on mac. I agree about v9. I also run Swift 3D which will not run on 9. Set me back a bit with one of my projects (www.timharrisinteractive.com), but I wa able to adjust the lighting to recreate the desired cell shading effect. Thanks for the comment an I hope you continue to read my blog!
