The “Do-Nothing” Minority

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

Today’s actions or behavior of the Republican minority reminds me of a familiar theme from United States political history.  In 1948, President Truman had to face a similar environment, but with a Republican controlled congress.  Known as the “do-nothing” congress, the Republicans themselves called upon social security expansion and the promotion of health and education by the federal government.  The Republican majority, however, was divided, creating a climate whose forecast involved President Truman’s failure to seek a second term in office.

We all know how that fairy tail ended.

The Republicans are predicting a great victory in November.  Are they not students of history?  If there is one thing the American party hates most, its the perception of being lazy (even though I think we are a very lazy people).  We like to drive our big gas hungry trucks, drive 80 MpH down the freeway, and bestow upon the rich the powers to eliminate tens if not thousands of jobs.  A storm of chaos is brewing when countries such as France or Spain is perceived as being “more” progressive than the United States.  President Obama stated in his state of the union that he doesn’t accept second place. Well neither do the citizens of the United States and nor should the Republicans.  When Ford’s theme of like a rock evolves to that of drive one, there’s a problem.  Rocks can’t float in a sea of change.

So where do we go from here?

The Democrats need to follow George Bush Jr’s strategy to “stay the course.”  In a sense, the Democratic majority have absolutely nothing to lose.  If “change” brings about a Republican strategy of forcing a stale-mate, doing nothing as their Republican counterparts would most certainly force the Republicans to go on the “offensive.”  And the Democrats don’t want to be perceived as the problem, they want to be seen as the solution.  After all, the democrats do have a mandate brought about by the American people.  Creating an environment where Obama will be forced to use his veto powers is not wise.  There isn’t much unifying the Republican party other than religion and greed.  If it involves giving women the rights to do anything, or take away the banks right to steal from anybody, you can forget about it.  Let the Republicans speak!  After a while ( Sarah Palin ), people will see and hear how idiotic and extremist they really are.

If I were Republican, I would have taken this “do-nothing” stance in the summer as opposed to spring. But as of now, I believe President Obama is doing the right thing.  Up the rhetoric and expose the Republicans for who they are and what they are doing.  It’s free air time for Obama and will only drain the banks of the Republican party coming into the November elections.

Apple has declared war on modern day file architecture.

Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears…

Do not be deceived by Apple’s new iPad, for it is hardly revolutionary, instead this device serves as a blatent declaration of war against software developers everywhere.  Hidden inside this trojan horse is the next twenty years of computing development in which we could very well witness a world where major computing firms such as Microsoft and Apple could be in control of the entire application development process from beginning to end.  Imagine if you will, a world where a developer has to pay, through yearly licensing, to write software for computers and it be required for your application to even be considered.  Assuming developers did pay, their applications must be submitted to Apple for review.  Guidelines established by Apple would serve as a “legalized” form of censorship.  Apple will claim they have rid the world of piracy through peer review, but as we watched in Equilibrium, Apple would also banish any form of artistic expression which does not carry a viewpoint other than that of their own.

This is a very dark time indeed.  Apple doesn’t plan to revolutionize the computer.  They plan to turn the computer into a futuristic ad vehicle.

There is a great thread going on right now.  I highly recommend all those who care about the openess of computing development to contribute to it.  If Apple wants a war, they’ve come looking in the right place.

iPad Sucks Donkey Shlong and here’s why.

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

Steve Jobs might think that he can impress all the Apple fanboys with his slick looking clipboard sized device, but I am not amused at all. As a matter of fact, Steve might have swayed me back over to a PC tablet more so than an iPad. Why? Trust me, I shall tell you why.

1.) Price. Remind me again what I am buying, because after Job’s keynote, my mind is in a tailspin.  Ah yes.  I am buying a clipboard shape device with a “1GHz Apple A4 custom-designed, high-performance, low-power system-on-a-chip.”  When I went shopping for my great Macbook Pro, I actually went around and priced individual components to see what exactly I was getting for my money.  I followed the same procedure with the iPad and found a 1ghz(actually a bit higher) clipboard shaped Dell on Amazon for $99.95!!!

2.) Battery Life.  Steve Jobs might have impressed a few individuals with the iPad’s high battery life, but when the device doesn’t have to play CDS, DVDs, or need I say OFFER MULTITASKING CAPABILITIES, then one doesn’t really have to worry about draining the battery now does he. Stop me now, because I’m just getting warmed up!

3.) Name.  I shall not elaborate on this.

4.) Where is iPhone OS4 ?  What happened, Steve?  Apple makes how many billion a year, enough to solve the crisis in Haiti, and you can’t manage to show off the latest and greatest iPhone OS update?  I don’t even know what it does, but I at least want to know your new iPad runs an OS that is nearly two  years old (in development years).  Without the latest OS installed on the iPad that tells me one of two things.

  • A.) iPad has been in development for a long long time and Steve Jobs has been holding out on the device until he believed he could make a profit.  Need we not forget that the F-117 Fighter plane was a biproduct of WW2?  The iPad, I believe, was a biproduct of 2001!  Due to the fact that the device was introduced between major product cycles ( Snow Leopard, Macbook Pro refresh, and iPhone refresh ), now was probably the best and only time to unveil the iPad.
  • B.)  Something happened during the development of the iPad product cycle to make Apple go “oh shit,” that just aint gonna work!  And in a desperate attempt to show their stockholders something, Apple unveiled the very same POS they showed us!

4.) No Intel Inside?  WTF Steve! WTF, wtf, wtf, wtf, wtf, wtf, wtf, wtf, wtf, wtf, wtf, wtf, wtf, wtf, wtf, wtf, wtf, wtf, wtf, wtf, wtf, wtf, wtf, wtf, wtf, wtf, wtf, wtf, wtf, wtf, wtf, wtf, wtf, wtf,  wtf, wtf, wtf, wtf, wtf, wtf, wtf, wtf, wtf, wtf, wtf, wtf, wtf, wtf, wtf, wtf, wtf, wtf, wtf, wtf, wtf, wtf, wtf, wtf, wtf, wtf, wtf, wtf, wtf, wtf !!!!

I could care less about the iPad as much as I wanted to know more about devices that make me a productive American citizen.  If Steve Jobs has forgotten I shall enlighten him once more.  The economy sucks, Steve.  We NEED jobs.  California is going to drop into the ocean at some point in time.  We all know this.  Stop giving richy rich a device only he can use while he collects all of the money from the hard working poor and instead make us a game changer that changes the crappy environment we, the American people, are stuck in!

Your devices are also used as tools so people can make money so they can afford weddings(such as myself).  Better tools means better opportunitieswhich means I can, you guess it, make more money!  Dear Steve, if there is one thing you can do for me this year it would be to produce a macbook pro with a dual core i5 or i7 chipset that can carry more than 4 gigs of ram.  That is all I ask.  Please, Steve.  Can you do this for me?

I Heart Apple

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

Things to look for:

1.) How many jobs will Apple create with it’s device?

Steve Jobs revolutionized the app store business, making it possible for developers to reach customers directly. Expect Apple to do the same with multimedia. The multi-colored background in the Apple invite, In my opinion, connects more so with artists rather than the print companies being mentioned.

2.) Who are the key players involved in delivering content?

Obviously it’s all about content, content, content. Will Apple landlock the tablet through Time Warner, Comcast, or Fox to name a few. And what exactly will be the media format of choice? The Adobe Flash player has been proven to be quite reliable when it comes to streaming content. Will Apple surprise us all and provide the Adobe Flash player in their tablet device? Howabout this for a bombshell. Apple offers Microsoft’s Silverlight player, instead. Will Quicktime suffice?

3.) Price point for interactive content…

We should be hearing about these new interactive magazines and the real question will be pertaining to the target price point of the subscription service. With more ads, will Apple force content providers to stomach a majority of cost? Will Apple have to approve every ad being filtered to the tablet? Are we to see an overhall to the traditional tv model, or something else entirely?

Steve Jobs is brilliant. But brilliant people bring about horrible tragedy. I hope the tablet lives up to the hype.

Farewell to NBC. Due to your ignorance, I will never watch another one of your shows again!

Nor will I go to Hulu (I will only embed and waste your precious bandwidth!), SCYFY(Can’t you just let the battlestar franchise die!), or any other franchise you have managed to royally screw up.  Cheers goes out to Conan O’Brien for sticking it to the man and getting your money as a result. You will and always will be the voice of my generation. If you go to Fox, I bid you farewell red haired man from la mancha, I won’t be watching you there, either.

What I want with an Apple tablet

Monday, January 18th, 2010

Dear Steve Jobs,

I hope you read this, because I know what your tablet needs to have as opposed to what it shouldn’t. What makes me qualified? Simple. I am blogging on behalf of someone who does buy your products and probably forever will be. If your tablet comes complete with things I want, I will buy it. If it doesn’t, not only will I blog on its epic failure, but I might even draw a lame comic strip depicting such an event.

1.) Please provide eBooks that read to me while in the car. I would like for the screen to dim so that it does not waste power while being turned on, and I would like the stereo plug to be close enough to my aux jack in my vehicle so that I might save money listening to books instead of having to buy the audio version.
2.) If the tablet plays tv content, that is cool, however, please do not give me a tv over a smooth and operational OS.
3.) Please give me more than 80 gigs of hard drive space. Anything less would just be a disaster (Xbox).
4.) If I am to watch movies in the comfort of my own home while viewing on my tablet, I wish to manipulate the gamma settings, and adjust the brightness.
5.) Battery settings need to be better than my macbook pro. Five – eight hours max would be just perfect!
6.) Lastly. Since I am a graphic artist whose requirements span from your traditional illustration and 3d modeling and rendering, please give me Snow Leopard on my tablet. I wish to have pen recognition and full driver support.
