Apple IPad, tv content, and you…

Sunday, February 7th, 2010

I believe I was one of the only ones bragging about how I believe the Apple IPad was in fact going to be serving HD television content through a new ITunes ubscription model. Well by now we all know that I was wrong (and perhaps a bit nieve). Nevertheless, All Things Digital (Wall Street Journal) had a great article the other day in which the author predicted the Apple IPad would rejuvinate Apple’s iTV offering.  Perhaps Apple is really going after Amazon and the eBook market, but when you actually look at the device, it hardly focuses on eBooks as much as it does on anything else.  As a matter of fact, I would contend that Apple’s IPad offering as it stands right now, does not really serve any one market in particular.  People claim that Apple is focusing on other niche markets such as stay at home moms, business casual, etc.  I doubt that to be the case.

The iPad looks to be quite the enigma.  I believe that AT&T and Verizon lack the proper infrastructure to bring about Steve Job’s true vision – a true convergence of ads, television, and publications.  What appears to be a thin client now, could potentially be a dominant entertainment platform in the years to come.

Apple has declared war on modern day file architecture.

Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears…

Do not be deceived by Apple’s new iPad, for it is hardly revolutionary, instead this device serves as a blatent declaration of war against software developers everywhere.  Hidden inside this trojan horse is the next twenty years of computing development in which we could very well witness a world where major computing firms such as Microsoft and Apple could be in control of the entire application development process from beginning to end.  Imagine if you will, a world where a developer has to pay, through yearly licensing, to write software for computers and it be required for your application to even be considered.  Assuming developers did pay, their applications must be submitted to Apple for review.  Guidelines established by Apple would serve as a “legalized” form of censorship.  Apple will claim they have rid the world of piracy through peer review, but as we watched in Equilibrium, Apple would also banish any form of artistic expression which does not carry a viewpoint other than that of their own.

This is a very dark time indeed.  Apple doesn’t plan to revolutionize the computer.  They plan to turn the computer into a futuristic ad vehicle.

There is a great thread going on right now.  I highly recommend all those who care about the openess of computing development to contribute to it.  If Apple wants a war, they’ve come looking in the right place.

Wine Glass Illustration

Sunday, October 18th, 2009

I thought I might post this illustration somewhere as I can’t really use it in anything.  I was playing around with some concepts for a client the other day and decided that it probably wasn’t the best idea to make my client look like an alcohol commercial.  However, I thought the glass looked pretty good.
